I was very honoured to have my documentary The Artist: A Creative Journey be nominated for Best Documentary. I think the communication was excellent and I really enjoyed attending the awards ceremony in person. One suggestion to make the experience even better would be to notify nominees a little earlier in advance, especially for people who have to fly into Vancouver from another province or country to attend. Was fine, the original person who wrote our review gave us only positive feedback, got us excited to engage with the festival, promoted it, got lots of people to rewatch our film on their site. Was a fun experience.
The winner of the category was well deserved.
the only concern from our judge - Corey, was to use stock footage of the animals that one of your heroes spoke about during the film. Which we considered, however ultimately chose not to include, due to our mandate of being 100% original content only.
The live ceremony looked like a ton of fun. Would have been nice if the streaming events was a bit more professionally done.
As soon as they announced the first winner and they were not in attendance, they showed a video of the acceptance, so while watching the event stream and not providing a video, I knew we didn't win prior to the announcement.

Good Festival! I was happy to have my film 'Good Night' selected and participate in the 'Public Choice Award'. However, I have two suggestions: 1- Communication with participants can be improved at the different stages of the process, including post-awarding. 2 - The awards ceremony was grand, but the Festival's production should have done more to generate images, as most of the event was broadcast live via cell phone and from a side angle far from the stage.
