From the director
I write from memory, from a place of unanswered questions and personal restlessness. I focus on what the characters are not saying rather holding inside their bodies, what they look at, what they hide or desire. Time becomes a private experience, it expands or contracts responding to inner conflict, pain or fantasy. My filmmaking is very influenced by the work of Claire Denis, Lucrecia Martel and Ingmar Bergman. My short films Eugenia (2017), Eva (2018) and Al Lado del Río (By The River, 2019) are portraits of women, tableaus of their private moments. The characters’ environment and their relationships with others ultimately bring them to some sort of silent and private confrontation with themselves, a release or transformation.
