Hollywood North International Film Festival
Terms of Use
Version 1 · effective 2026-08-31
1 — Who these terms are between
1.1 These terms are an agreement between you and Hollywood North Film Festival Ltd., a British Columbia company (BC1448960), which presents the Hollywood North International Film Festival and operates hollywoodnorthfilmfestival.org (the "Festival"). "Festival Parties" has the meaning given in the Filmmaker Terms: the Festival; the Hollywood North International Film Festival Society once incorporated, if the Festival's rights and obligations are assigned to it; the owner of the Festival's trademarks; and the directors, officers, employees, volunteers, judges and contractors of each.
1.2 An account is not membership in the Society. No one becomes a member of the Hollywood North International Film Festival Society — and no voting, membership or governance right arises — by creating an account, submitting a film, buying a ticket, attending an event, volunteering, donating or sponsoring. Membership in the Society is applied for separately and admitted only under the Society's bylaws.
1.3 Acceptance is expressed electronically by pressing the designated control after signing in with an emailed passcode; the Festival preserves a record of each acceptance, and you may re-read the version you accepted at any time. You are responsible for keeping control of the email address on your account.
2 — Using the site and the festival
2.1 Streams are for personal viewing. You must not record, capture, download, redistribute or publicly perform any film on the platform, and you must not scrape the site, probe its security, share access to gated screenings, or interfere with voting. Audience voting is one person, one vote; votes cast otherwise are void.
2.2 The Festival may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Content you contribute in future features (comments, profiles) stays yours, but you licence the Festival to display it on the platform, and the Festival may remove it.
3 — What the Festival is responsible for — and not
3.1 The site and its streams are provided "as is". The Festival is not liable for interruptions, technical failures, scheduling changes, or events outside its reasonable control.
3.2 Limit for the platform. To the extent the law allows, the total aggregate liability of the Festival Parties to you in connection with the platform is limited to the amounts you paid the Festival in the twelve months before the claim, and none of the Festival Parties is liable for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing in these terms excludes, limits or waives any right or liability that the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act or other law does not permit to be excluded, limited or waived.
3.3 Physical events. Attending festival events in person involves ordinary event risks, which you accept. Any release of liability for a physical event is presented separately — with the ticket or at the door — and volunteers, evaluators and filmmakers are covered by their own documents. This section is notice, not a waiver.
3.4 For anything concerning a submitted film, the Filmmaker Terms govern over these terms; for volunteering, the Volunteer Agreement governs; for jury or screening service, the Evaluator's Acknowledgment governs; for paid work, the Staff & Contractor Agreement governs.
4 — Everything else
4.1 Personal information is handled as described in the Privacy Policy and under British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act.
4.2 The Festival may publish a new version of these terms; you will be asked to accept it at your next sign-in, and the version you accepted governs until you do. Versions and effective dates appear with the document and are never edited in place.
4.3 These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and Canada, and its courts have exclusive jurisdiction. If any part is unenforceable, the rest stands. Sections 1.2, 3.2 and 4.3 survive account closure.
